Sociedad snatch late winner as Celta and Getafe share the points

Sociedad looked to have thrown away a two-goal lead before Luka Sucic struck late to secure three points, while Celta were unable to take advantage of their numerical advantage after Zaid Romero was sent off.

Ochieng inspires Sociedad to dramatic Elche win

Real Sociedad finally ended their eight-game winless run away from home in La Liga with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Elche.

Job Ochieng played a key role for the visitors, scoring once and providing two assists as Sociedad made a fast start. The forward opened his account for the club after 11 minutes, smashing Carlos Soler's ball into the roof of the net following a corner.

Elche gradually found their rhythm, but Sociedad doubled their advantage in the 31st minute.

Pedro Bigas lost possession under pressure from Ochieng, who quickly played in Yangel Herrera. The midfielder's first-time effort lacked power but slipped underneath goalkeeper Matias Dituro and found the bottom corner.

Elche had chances to respond, but Unai Marrero kept Sociedad ahead before the game changed dramatically after the break.

Luka Sucic appeared to have made it 3-0, only for VAR to rule out the goal for a handball. The decision also resulted in a red card for substitute Jon Martin, who was judged to have denied Elche a clear goalscoring opportunity.

The hosts immediately took advantage of having an extra man. Thomas Lemar marked his Elche debut by pulling one back with a low finish from 20 yards.

Fer Nino then completed the comeback with just over 15 minutes remaining, chesting Tete Morente's cross over the line from close range.

Despite being down to 10 men, Sociedad refused to settle for a point. Sucic finally got his goal in the 90th minute, driving into the box before firing an unstoppable left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Marrero then produced a vital save in stoppage time to deny Niño and preserve a dramatic victory.

The win extended Sociedad's unbeaten run to three matches ahead of Sunday's home clash with Atletico Madrid. Elche remain without a win this season and travel to Athletic Club next.

Starfelt rescues Celta as 10-man Getafe hold on

Celta de Vigo were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Getafe after the hosts played the final stages with 10 men.

Getafe started brightly and had an early chance through Ramon Terrats, who curled wide when one-on-one with Celta goalkeeper Ionut Radu.

The hosts eventually took the lead midway through the first half. Celta failed to clear a corner and Martin Satriano reacted quickest, flicking the ball into the top corner from close range for his first goal of the season.

Getafe then dropped deeper and concentrated on protecting their advantage, but Celta eventually found a way through.

Just before the hour mark, Hugo Gonzalez delivered a dangerous corner and Carl Starfelt rose to head the ball past David Soria, despite failing to make a clean connection.

Getafe were dealt another blow when Zaid Romero was sent off for a second yellow card following a late challenge on González.

Celta dominated possession after the dismissal but could not find a winning goal as Getafe defended their point.

The draw means Celta have still not won in their opening five La Liga matches for the second consecutive season. They will look to change that against Málaga next time out.

Getafe, meanwhile, remain concerned by their lack of goals after scoring just twice so far this season.
