Andre Ayew opens door to Ghana football leadership role

Ayew disclosed that he has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Division One League club for several years, adding another dimension to speculation over his future in Ghanaian football.

Ayew made the revelation while appearing on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi in Accra on Sunday.

"For a few years now, I've been CEO of FC Nania," Ayew said, as quoted by GhanaSoccerNet.

FC Nania was founded by Abedi Pele, one of Ghana's greatest footballers, and currently compete in the country's second tier.

While Ayew remains without a club following his departure from Dutch side NAC Breda, his role at Nania has raised questions about whether the experienced forward could eventually move into football administration.

The 36-year-old has been linked with a possible bid for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in the 2027 elections. His position at Nania could potentially strengthen his involvement within the Ghanaian football structures, given the eligibility requirements for prospective GFA presidential candidates.

However, Ayew appeared reluctant to make his ambitions about personal advancement when asked by Mikel Obi about the possibility of taking on a leadership role in Ghanaian football.

"First of all, what the masses want is most important. I've heard the rumours about people saying I should lead Ghana football, but that's not what is important, I just want our football to grow," he said.

"Not tomorrow, but now," he added.

Ayew's comments suggest that his priority is the development of Ghanaian football rather than immediately confirming any political ambitions within the game.

For now, the former Black Stars captain continues to train in Ghana and has frequently been spotted in Legon, where Nania play their home matches.

With his playing future still uncertain, Ayew's growing involvement at Nania could be an indication of a broader transition into football leadership after a distinguished career with the Black Stars.
