The 2027 edition of the tournament is being hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
All three nations qualify automatically for the competition as the rest of the potential teams face off in the qualifying group stages that start next month.
Kenya last appeared at the 2019 AFCON finals, where they failed to make it out of the group stage.
McCarthy has now, however, been handed a significant challenge, to guide his side to success in the continental showpiece.
Mvurya said on Pulse Sport Kenya: "We are not just hosting the Africa Cup of Nations; we have to win," Mvurya said.
"Therefore, the Football Kenya Federation and the technical team of Harambee Stars will equally be looking at their roadmap.
"A key objective is to ensure Harambee Stars have excellent preparation."
Mvurya added: “A solid roadmap that will secure a win, whether in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, or ultimately, the final.”
