Soweto Derby sells out within hours as Orlando Pirates prepare to host Kaizer Chiefs

The Buccaneers announced that all available tickets had been snapped up through authorised outlets before the end of the day, setting the stage for a capacity crowd of more than 90,000 supporters at the iconic Calabash on Saturday, 31 October.

The highly anticipated encounter will be the 185th edition of one of South African football's fiercest rivalries, with Pirates serving as the home team.

The sold-out status underlines the enduring appeal of the Soweto Derby, which remains one of the biggest fixtures on the domestic football calendar.

Pirates head into the clash having collected four points from their two Betway Premiership meetings with Chiefs last season, while also enjoying a strong start to their title-defence campaign.

The Buccaneers are currently second in the league standings with 22 points from eight matches, sitting just one point behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played a game more.

Their preparations received a further boost on Wednesday night when they recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy, bouncing back from their MTN8 final defeat to Sundowns.

Chiefs, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by Stellenbosch FC, leaving them fourth on the standings with 14 points as they prepare for the high-pressure encounter against their Soweto rivals.

With the league title race beginning to take shape, the derby presents both teams with an opportunity to strengthen their positions and claim bragging rights.
