The 54-year-old replaced Didier Deschamps after his predecessor's 14-year spell as France coach and will begin his reign with a Nations League trip to Kocaeli.
Zidane, who won 108 caps for France as a player, said the occasion had brought back strong emotions from the start of his international career.
"Maybe even more, actually," Zidane said when asked if he felt the same emotions as when he made his France debut 32 years ago.
"It was a long time ago, and today I feel an immense emotion at being here in charge of this France team."
The appointment of the former Real Madrid manager has generated huge interest in France, but Zidane has insisted the focus must remain on his players.
"It's the next step after Didier's 14 years, it's something new so it's completely normal," he said.
"But the main protagonists are the players. I'm going to try to do the job with my players, to make sure we can win matches – that's what interests me."
France midfielder Adrien Rabiot said Zidane had made an effort to give his players room to express themselves since taking over.
"He is with us the way he is on the outside," Rabiot said.
"We're fully aware of how important he's been for French football. His aura means he takes up a lot of space and people expect a lot from him."
Rabiot, who is one of France's captains alongside Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde, also revealed that Zidane had already introduced several changes.
"Quite a few things have changed - some players already, different ways of doing things and also different training sessions," he said.
Rabiot expects France to adopt a more attacking approach under their new coach.
"What the coach wants is obviously a fairly attacking style of play," he said.
"We'll be very closely watched for how we play because the coach is new and a lot is expected from him."
Zidane's first test comes against Turkey on Friday, before France travel to Belgium on Monday.
His first home match will then come against Italy next Friday.
