Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were on target in a 2-0 victory as Inter beat Parma 2-0 at the San Siro on Sunday to clinch a 21st Scudetto success following a trophyless campaign last season.
Romanian mentor Chivu replaced Simone Inzaghi at the start of the current campaign and became just the fifth manager ever to win the Serie A title in his first season with Inter, and the first since Jose Mourinho in 2009.
"The coach did so well bringing fresh energy, enthusiasm, so after four great years with Simone, perhaps we needed a change of scenery after that Champions League final [a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain]," Martinez told DAZN Italia.
"Chivu made sure everyone felt involved and could even train with a smile. That really helped."
Inter lost the 2025 Scudetto by a single point to Napoli and were then thumped 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, a humiliation that left deep scars on the club.
They can complete the third league and cup double in their history if they beat Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 13 at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
"Now we have to keep winning, that's the most important thing, and also the most beautiful in a league as balanced as Serie A," Martinez added.
