Rwanda Premier League confirms dual trophy system

Their participation in Rwanda is due to a special arrangement introduced because of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

The announcement came after comments made on Monday by Fabrice Shema regarding how trophies, prize money and continental qualification places would be distributed this season.

Under the arrangement, Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merrikh SC are participating in Rwanda's top flight while domestic football activities remain suspended in Sudan.

The RPL confirmed that a Sudanese side finishing top of the standings will officially be recognised as BK Pro League champions.

However, guest clubs will not receive any financial rewards allocated to the league's best-performing Rwandan teams.

Al Hilal Omdurman could mathematically secure the title on Wednesday when they face Gasogi United. A draw would be enough for Al Hilal to clinch the championship with three matches still to play.

Meanwhile, the highest-ranked Rwandan club will receive the separate BK Pro League National Champions trophy and earn Rwanda's place in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.

The RPL also confirmed that CAF Confederation Cup qualification will follow FERWAFA regulations. Should the top-ranked local club also win the Peace Cup, the next best-placed Rwandan side in the league standings will qualify for the continental competition.
