Khawula made his remarks during the club's official send-off held in Durban this week, where provincial officials met with players, technical staff, and management ahead of the final.
"The province is behind you," Khawula told the squad, as quoted on the club's official website.
He also highlighted the importance of supporters, describing them as the "12th player" capable of influencing big occasions on the national stage.
His message to the team was simple and direct: "Listen to the coach, enjoy the game and be yourselves. We want this Durban City to end KZN's 17-year wait for the trophy."
The last time a KwaZulu-Natal side lifted the Nedbank Cup was in 2009, when Lamontville Golden Arrows claimed the title. Khawula will be among the dignitaries attending the final in Polokwane, where he will represent the provincial government.
In a bid to ensure strong support for the team, the KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has arranged five buses to transport supporters and officials to the final.
Khawula also took time to commend the club's leadership, technical team, and players for representing the province with pride throughout their cup run.
Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia expressed gratitude for the MEC's backing, saying the support comes at a crucial moment for the club.
"We are truly grateful for your unwavering support and commitment to developing football and empowering our communities. Your presence ahead of the final means a great deal to the team," Kadodia said.
Durban City will now turn their focus to Saturday's final, where they will aim to bring the coveted trophy back to KwaZulu-Natal after a long wait.
