Kaizer Chiefs ponder Ashley du Preez future ahead of new season

The 28-year-old did not score a goal in 13 appearances for the club last season, with his last goal for Amakhosi scored in a 1-0 victory against Magesi back in April 2025.

According to Kick Off, the former Stellenbosch attacker has one year remaining on his current contract with Chiefs effective from 1 July but negotiations are in progress between the club and the player.

New Glamour Boys coach Fernando Da Cruz may be looking to assess his squad before making transfer decisions which may allow du Preez an opportunity to remain at the club should his goalscoring woes end.

Du Preez has made 96 appearances for Chiefs since joining them from Stellies, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists.

The forward was temporarily in Hugo Broos squad at the start of the Belgian's tenure, making two appearances for the national team against Sierra Leone and Botswana, but his ailing goalscoring form for his club led to his omission from Bafana Bafana.

He is currently competing with Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba, Etiosa Ighodaro and Tashreeq Morris for a starting berth in the side, although he could also be used on the wings.
