Report: Arsenal add Barcelona's Jules Kounde to list of defensive targets

According to Sport, the Gunners are keeping tabs on the France international, with Arteta reportedly impressed by his ability to operate both centrally and at right-back. Barcelona are willing to consider Kounde's departure as they look to generate funds for further squad investment.

Kounde has only recently returned to pre-season preparations after representing France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is expected to hold discussions with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick about his future, with Arsenal ready to advance their interest if the defender signals that he would be open to a move. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation.

The 27-year-old initially arrived at Barcelona as a centre-back but has developed into one of La Liga's most reliable right-backs. His pace, positioning and strength in individual battles allow him to operate effectively within a high defensive line.

Kounde recorded 1.6 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per league appearance last season, while his 59 accurate passes per match ranked fourth among Barcelona players.

Although he lacks the height often associated with elite modern centre-backs, Kounde offsets that weakness through his acceleration, aggression and timing.

Arsenal are expected to remain busy in the closing weeks of the window as they search for defensive reinforcements following William Saliba's back injury.
