The 22-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan from Chelsea this off-season, with Unai Emery playing a pivotal role in convincing him to choose the Midlands club ahead of other interested teams. Garnacho is aiming to revive his career after an inconsistent spell at Stamford Bridge.
He was named in the starting line-up on the left wing as Villa defeated the Indonesia All Stars 3-1 during their pre-season tour in Jakarta.
Garnacho played the opening 45 minutes at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium before being substituted at half-time, while Emi Buendía, Ross Barkley and Brian Madjo scored the goals.
"I think it's also important to play European competitions," he said.
"I was looking for a club to get confidence and try to be the player that I was like years ago from my first years ago at Manchester United.
"Joining to play in the Champions League also is important to be part of this and Champions League is the best. We're going to play it this season. I'm really happy and hopefully we can do something important."
The former Manchester United winger, who joined Chelsea in a 40-million-pound transfer, gave his first interview since arriving at Villa and explained that Emery's influence was the decisive factor behind his decision to leave.
Villa's loan agreement includes a 43-million-pound conditional obligation to buy, which will be triggered if appearance-related milestones are met. Emery believes Garnacho can make a significant impact during the upcoming campaign.
