Oswin Appollis stays grounded as Orlando Pirates keep title push alive

The Buccaneers secured an emphatic 3-0 win over Magesi at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, with goals from Patrick Maswanganyi, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Appollis sealing all three points.

The result leaves Pirates just three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with a game in hand as the race for the title intensifies.

Appollis, who is enjoying a fine campaign and is widely viewed as a contender for the PSL Footballer of the Season award, netted his ninth league goal of the season in the victory.

Despite the convincing scoreline, the winger revealed that the team had aimed to be even more ruthless in front of goal.

"It was a very important three points for us," Appollis told the club's media after the match.

"The boys did well, and I'm happy with the overall performance from the squad. Even the impact players who came on gave us more energy and helped the team a lot."

The Bafana Bafana international emphasised the importance of teamwork in Pirates' success this season.

"All thanks to my teammates for sharing the ball with me, and I try to do the same for them. It's a team effort. That's why we have so many players contributing in the squad. It's all about the team," he added.
