The Red Devils rejected suggestions that El-Shenawy's reported injury was questionable and objected to Hassan describing a previous period in the goalkeeper's career as one when he was "finished".
According to KingFut.com, Al Ahly said in a statement circulated to reporters that such remarks were unacceptable and could be viewed as a slight against any player, particularly one who serves as the club's captain.
The Cairo giants made it clear that they respect the technical decisions taken by the national team, but insisted that this should not extend to comments that could undermine El-Shenawy or cast doubt over his medical condition.
Hassan explained that El-Shenawy was left out of Egypt's squad for technical reasons, regardless of the goalkeeper's injury.
The coach then referred to a previous period when the 37-year-old had lost his place in Al Ahly's starting lineup.
"There was a period when Mohamed El-Shenawy was finished," Hassan said, while arguing that Egypt played a role in helping the goalkeeper rediscover his form.
Despite his comments, Hassan insisted that there was no personal dispute between himself and El-Shenawy and maintained that he still regards the veteran goalkeeper as one of Egypt's senior players.
Al Ahly had formally announced El-Shenawy's injury before Egypt's squad was released.
The latest statement from the club came after Egyptian Football Association president Hany Abo Rida described El-Shenawy as one of Egyptian football's "loyal sons" following Hassan's remarks.
Meanwhile, those close to Hassan have attempted to clarify his comments, with a source saying the coach did not mean El-Shenawy was finished as a player, but rather that he had previously fallen out of Al Ahly's starting XI.
Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan also confirmed that Al Ahly had sent the national team an official letter documenting the goalkeeper's injury, while maintaining that his brother retained the right to exclude El-Shenawy on technical grounds.
Meanwhile, Egypt played to a goalless draw against Angola in their opening game of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers last Friday. The Egyptians will next play South Sudan away from home on Tuesday.
