'We have to stay positive' - Haaland urges Man City to unite amid financial storm

City face the prospect of a points deduction or even expulsion from the Premier League following an independent commission's findings. The charges relate to alleged financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018, with the commission finding that the club used commercial contracts to inflate revenue and reduce costs by more than 900 million pounds.

Haaland joined City in 2022, after the period covered by the charges, but the current squad could still be affected by any punishment.

Premier League leaders City return to action against Liverpool on Sunday, their first match since the verdict was made public.

The Norway striker believes the players must focus on football and support one another through the uncertainty.

"We have to stay positive, look ahead and try to win football games and try to enjoy the situation and win the game," Haaland told the club's website.

"We have to stick together, and we have to spread the love to each other.

"So yeah, stick together, enjoy the ride and smile."

Haaland signed a contract extension until 2034 last year and has scored 169 goals in 205 appearances for City. However, the severity of any potential punishment could have a major impact on the club's future and its ability to retain leading players.

A significant points deduction or a lengthy absence from the Champions League would raise questions about City's ability to keep their biggest stars, with Europe's leading clubs likely to monitor the situation surrounding the prolific striker.

Despite the uncertainty, Haaland stressed his strong connection with the club and its supporters.

"I care a lot about City, I have to say," he added.

"I care a lot about the fans because I'm a fan myself - I feel with them as well."
