'We are happy to have him back' - Newcastle get Joelinton boost ahead of Coventry trip

Newcastle travel to face Coventry City on Monday night when the Premier League resumes following the international break, with Jaissle hoping to welcome back several players who missed the 2-1 win over Hull City.

Joelinton was among the nine players absent for that victory, but the Brazilian has now made encouraging progress and is back working with the squad.

Jaissle highlighted the 29-year-old's importance to Newcastle, describing him as a player who brings both quality and leadership to the team.

"He has qualities on the ball and out of possession. He is a leader - his body language shows that," Jaissle said.

"We need warriors in the team. We are really happy to have him back training with us."

However, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen faces a longer spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury. Jaissle confirmed that the goalkeeper is expected to be unavailable for around two months.

The Newcastle boss was more positive about Joelinton's recovery, although he stressed the need to manage the midfielder's workload carefully.

"Joey is progressing well, he is doing better. We need to be smart in our load management," he said.

Jaissle is also expecting three or four of the nine players who missed the Hull game to return to contention against Coventry.

"They have returned. I have allowed some of them an extra day off. We will have a full group in tomorrow," he said.

"We are hopeful there will be three or four back from the nine missing against Hull City."

Newcastle face a Coventry side full of confidence after the Sky Blues claimed their first Premier League victory in their previous match, beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 away from home.

Jaissle knows his team will have to perform at their best to avoid being caught out.

"Every team is capable to win against every opponent. Coventry have the quality," he said.

"They won their last match, they have confidence after winning that game. They will have momentum.

"If we perform at our best, then it will be difficult to beat us. We want to make it as difficult for them as possible."

After an unusual international break, Jaissle is simply pleased to have competitive football returning.

"I am happy we are back. The long break was a little bit unusual, but we are all happy football is back," he said.

"We want to improve, we want to develop. From tomorrow onwards, we will have everyone back with us training and can align ahead of Monday."
