Aston Villa target Chelsea striker Jackson after Palace reject Mateta bid

The Villans are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the imminent surprise departure of England international striker Ollie Watkins to Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal.

Senegal international forward Nicolas Jackson has emerged as a key target for Villa with Chelsea willing to sell for a reported £65million deal this summer.

According to reports, Jackson is close to agreeing personal terms with Unai Emery's side which had seen a £20-25 million offer rejected by Crystal Palace for Manchester United-linked France striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Emery has previously worked with Jackson during his spell at Villarreal and is looking to rebuild his squad following the departure of key players Morgan Roger, Ezri Konsa and Youri Tielemans ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

A ten-man Villa suffered an embarrassing 4-0 drubbing in their opening Premier League fixture of the new season against Brighton and Hove Albion last Sunday and will be looking to bounce back against defending league champions Arsenal next Monday.
