Manchester City have appealed against the findings of an independent commission, which ruled that the club breached Premier League financial regulations.
The commission found that City had arranged what it described as "sham" contracts with commercial partners between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons as part of a "disguised funding scheme". The arrangements were found to have artificially inflated the club's revenues by 830 million pounds.
Akanji played 136 matches for City between 2022 and 2025, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
The Switzerland international was not part of the team during the period covered by the commission's findings, but the uncertainty surrounding City's case has raised questions about the possible implications for the club's honours.
Akanji is currently focused on his career at Inter, where he initially joined on loan from City for the 2025/26 season. He helped the Italian club win both Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Speaking at a Champions League press conference on Monday, Akanji said he remained in contact with former City team-mates but was not allowing the situation to distract him from his work at Inter.
"Yeah, I am still in touch sometimes with my friends from Man City," he said.
"But obviously, I'm not so much worried about what's going on there. My full focus is here at Inter.
"I see everything that you see in the news and what's coming up. I don't know what's going to happen but hopefully I can keep my titles, that's the most important thing to me!"
Akanji will turn his attention to the Champions League on Tuesday when Inter host Club Brugge at the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
Manchester City, meanwhile, face a major European test on Wednesday when they welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Etihad Stadium.
