The fixture was originally scheduled for the opening weekend but was postponed following the tragic passing of Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams. The Brazilians return to Loftus after collecting four points from their opening two league games.
Miguel Cardoso's side drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, with Cassius Mailula coming off the bench to head the equaliser. Mailula has now scored twice as a substitute this season, having also struck the winner in Sundowns' 3-2 extra-time MTN8 victory over Polokwane City.
Cardoso believes tactical changes are making his side more difficult to predict.
"Sometimes outside, what I see now is that the team became much more dynamic in the way the team builds," he said.
"So, there are more challenges for the opponents because they don't really know what is gonna happen, and that is obviously a key that a coach can have."
Meanwhile, Gallants have struggled under new coach Phuti Mohafe, opening with a goalless draw against Kruger United before losing 3-1 at Stellenbosch.
The result left them 14th and extended their winless run in all competitions to 13 matches. Thapelo Dhludhlu scored Gallants' first goal of the campaign and will be one of their main attacking threats.
Mohafe criticised his team's performance against Stellenbosch.
"The way we lost (to Stellenbosch) was so uncalled for after we gave away two easy goals against the run of play. This performance did not meet our standards," he said.
History heavily favours Sundowns, who are unbeaten in eight league meetings with Gallants since 2021/22, winning six and drawing two. They have scored 19 goals and conceded five.
The most recent meeting at Loftus ended in a 3-1 Sundowns victory, while Gallants won last season's Nedbank Cup quarter-final against the Brazilians on penalties.
Sundowns will therefore be expected to extend their league dominance, while Gallants arrive needing a result to kick-start their campaign.
