The 34-year-old right-back has agreed a one-year deal with the Madrid-based club, having become a free agent when his contract with Real expired in June.
Carvajal brings an exceptional record to Getafe, having spent 23 years associated with Los Blancos in which time he won 27 trophies with the Spanish giants. His achievements include six Champions League titles, placing him among a select group of players to have lifted European football's premier club competition on six occasions.
He also spent the 2012-13 season with Bayer Leverkusen before returning to the Bernabeu, where he went on to make 451 appearances.
Getafe hope the experienced defender's arrival will strengthen their squad, with coach Jose Bordalas reportedly playing a key role in persuading him to remain in the Spanish capital. Carvajal is expected to provide competition at right-back, although he could also be used as a right-sided centre-back.
His move follows a difficult period at Real, where injuries and the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold restricted his opportunities. Carvajal suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October 2024 before sustaining another serious knee problem a year later.
Despite those setbacks, the former Spain international arrives with considerable experience at the highest level. He earned 51 caps for his country, helping Spain win the Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.
Getafe welcomed their new signing in an announcement on Tuesday, expressing their hope that his experience and leadership would prove valuable during his spell at the club.
"From Getafe CF, we want to welcome Dani Carvajal and wish him much success in this new stage. Welcome to the Coliseum, Dani!" a statement from Getafe read.
The defender could make his debut against Rayo Vallecano on October 19, provided his registration is completed in time. A return to the Bernabeu to face his former club is also on the calendar, with Getafe scheduled to visit their capital counterparts in January.
