The decision was made following discussions between the 34-year-old midfielder and Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hecking. The club said it will remain in regular contact with Eriksen and the medical team overseeing his recovery.
"Christian Eriksen will soon begin an individual rehabilitation programme. Following a discussion with VfL Wolfsburg's managing director, Dieter Hecking, it was decided that the 34-year-old will complete this programme in his native Denmark," Wolfsburg said.
Eriksen collapsed after clutching his chest during Denmark's friendly against Ukraine in Odense on June 7, an incident that brought back memories of his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 against Finland in Copenhagen.
The midfielder was taken to hospital for tests but later reassured fans that he was doing well and had returned home. He has played with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) since his 2021 cardiac arrest.
Eriksen joined Wolfsburg as a free agent from Manchester United in September and captained the club in their relegation playoff defeat to Paderborn.
Wolfsburg have not provided a timeframe for his return to football, with the club focused on supporting Eriksen's full recovery and long-term wellbeing.
