With only 3 races left this season, Norris looks poised to be the champion-elect – after claiming victory in the recent Brazilian Grand Prix

Formula 1 is in the twilight stages of the season as only 3 races remain – with Lando Norris poised to run away in the sunset with the WDC. McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed victory at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and is now favourite to be crowned Formula 1 champion at the end of the season. Norris once again outperformed his teammate Oscar Piastri who has now gone 7 races since his last race victory. Despite a heroic performance by Max Verstappen, by starting in the pit lane and finishing P3 – the four-time champion looks out of reach for Norris who is gunning to become the new F1 champion. Norris will now have the Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to write his name in the history books and hope that Piastri does not find form in the next three rounds.

World Drivers Standings

1. Lando Norris (McLaren) – 390 Points
Races Wins – x7
Podiums – x17
Last 5 races – Brazil (P1), Mexico (P1), USA (P2), Singapore (P3) & Azerbaijan (P7)
Norris looks poised to be crowned 2025 World Drivers Champion – after completing the perfect weekend in Sao Paulo. The McLaren driver won the Sprint Race on Saturday – claiming a further 8 points, took pole during qualifying and subsequently won the Grand Prix Race on Sunday to extend his gap to Piastri to 24 points.

2. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 366 Points
Race Wins – x7
Podiums – x14
Last 5 races – Brazil (P5), Mexico (P5), USA (P5), Singapore (P4), Azerbaijan (DNF)
Oscar Piastri – who last won a race 7 rounds ago back in August – could experience one of the biggest collapse in F1 history if he fails to win the next 3 races. Piastri at one stage of the season was the champion-elect and enjoyed a massive gap to Norris – however since his last victory at the Dutch Grand Prix in August – the Australian driver has yet to take a podium or a race win the the last 7 races. Piastri still has a chance of winning the WDC by claiming victory in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

3. Max Verstappen (RedBull Racing) – 341 Points
Race Wins – x5
Podiums – x12
Last 5 Races - Brazil (P3), Mexico (P3), USA (P1), Singapore (P2) and Azerbaijan (P1)
Max Verstappen despite a heroic showing in the last couple of weeks could relinquish his status as F1 champion come the end of the Formula 1 season – to title rival Lando Norris. Verstappen has won the WDC in 2021,2022, 2023 and 2024 however this time around it seems almost certain that he will fail to produce a remarkable comeback in his quest for his 5th WDC.
