Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Indiana Pacers 103 – 91 in game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have capped off one of the most dominant seasons by an NBA team after being crowned champions in game 7 of the finals. The franchise won their first title and have kickstarted a new era in NBA basketball. Considered a small-market team, the Thunder’s championship capped off an extraordinary season by ending the regular season with a 64-14 record, and becoming the second youngest team in NBA history to win the Larry O’Brien trophy. Since 2019 the NBA has crowned 7 different champions in the last 7 seasons.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Wins Finals MVP

League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his team to glory by scoring 29 points and 12 assists – which saw him crowned finals MVP. The deciding game had a total 11 lead changes however SGA came in clutch for OKC when his franchise needed him the most. With SGA being crowned the best baller of the series, he becomes the first player since Shaquille O’Neal in 2002 to win an NBA title, Finals MVP, league MVP and scoring champion all in the same season.

Tyrese Haliburton Heartbreak

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton – who was already an injury doubt due to a previous calf injury – tore his achillies in the first quarter and was in tears the moment he felt the injury. Anguished in pain Haliburton’s heartbreaking injury came after he shot 3-3 behind the three point line scoring 9 points in the first 7 minutes of the opening quarter. Playing most of the game without an injured Haliburton, Indiana rallied from 22 down to cut OKC’s lead to 10 in the 4th quarter, but never got closer.

  • Chet Holmgren (OKC) recorded a Finals Game 7-record five blocks to go with 18 points and Jalen Williams dropped 20 as the Thunder won the turnover battle, 21-7.
  • Bennedict Mathurin had a team high 24 points, despite coming off the bench for Indiana. Pascal Siakam (Cameroon) recorded 16 points and 4 rebounds.
