Positive talk with Al-Hilal puts Barcelona on course for Joao Cancelo signing

Reports claim that the move is "imminent" after talks between the Spanish champions and the Saudi Pro League side made significant progress over the weekend. The two clubs are reportedly closing in on an agreement worth 10 million euros.

Cancelo has not rejoined the Al-Hilal squad following the Club World Cup and was recently spotted training on his own in Portugal. Reports from Saudi Arabia claimed the arrangement was made with the club's approval as the final details of his exit are completed.

The full-back has been one of Barcelona's leading objectives during the current transfer window, with head coach Hansi Flick pushing for the deal after enjoying the defender's performances during his loan spell in the latter part of last season.

Once the transfer is confirmed, Barcelona are expected to reshuffle their defensive options. Hector Fort, Xavi Espart and Jofre Torrents are all tipped to leave on loan in order to gain regular first-team experience.

Flick's plans for the upcoming campaign reportedly see Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia competing for the right-back position, while Cancelo is expected to provide competition for Alejandro Balde on the opposite flank, giving Barcelona greater depth across the back line.
