Baartman opened his account for Amakhosi during their 2-0 Betway Premiership victory over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, marking an important milestone in his young Chiefs career.
For Velebayi, the goal carried even greater meaning because of the close bond he shares with Baartman. The pair have known each other since their days in the youth ranks of Cape Town Spurs, previously known as Ajax Cape Town.
"Baartman getting his first goal was inspiring for me," Velebayi told the media.
"It was also a happy and proud moment because we've come a long way together."
Velebayi said their journey had brought them through difficult moments, making Baartman's breakthrough at Chiefs particularly special.
The two players joined Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs last season after winning a dispute that allowed them to leave the club as free agents. Their first campaign at Naturena proved difficult, with both players struggling for consistent opportunities.
However, their fortunes appear to have changed under new coach Fernando Da Cruz, who has given them greater opportunities this season.
Velebayi has also welcomed the arrival of former Spurs teammate Faiz Abrahams, who joined Chiefs on loan from Stellenbosch FC.
The winger believes Abrahams' presence will increase competition within the squad and push every player to perform at their best.
Abrahams is yet to make his Chiefs debut, while Velebayi will look to score his first goal for the club when Amakhosi face Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Baartman, meanwhile, will be hoping his breakthrough goal is the beginning of a productive spell in front of goal.
