Former Sekhukhune United winger Ellias Mokwana set for Esperance exit as Saudi clubs circle

The Bafana Bafana international joined Al-Hazem on a season-long loan at the start of the 2025/26 campaign after struggling for regular game time at Esperance.

Speaking to FARPost, Mokwana's representative, Pontsho Madumo of Cream Sports Management, revealed that the 26-year-old's future is set to be decided in Saudi Arabia.

"Mokwana is on loan from Esperance to Al-Hazem, and the team has an option to make the move permanent," Madumo said.

"He's not going to Esperance anymore, and I can tell you that there are two teams in Saudi Arabia that are interested in him, but the first option is with Al-Hazem to decide whether they are taking him on a permanent deal."

Mokwana joined Esperance in July 2024 from Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United after establishing himself as one of the most sought-after attacking players in South African football.

However, his move to the Tunisian giants did not go according to plan. The winger found opportunities limited during his first season in North Africa and was also affected by off-field issues, including reports of unpaid salaries.

Seeking regular football, Mokwana moved to Saudi Arabia in July 2025 and became a regular feature for Al-Hazem throughout the campaign.

The former Platinum City Rovers star made 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists. While those numbers may not fully reflect his influence, his performances have reportedly attracted attention from clubs both in the Middle East and elsewhere.

With his loan deal nearing its conclusion, Al-Hazem now hold the key to his future through an option to make the transfer permanent, while other Saudi clubs wait in the wings.
