Report: Jose Mourinho doesn't see Raul Asencio as part of his Real Madrid plans

The Spanish centre-back, once viewed as a dependable rotational option capable of stepping into senior responsibilities when required, is no longer seen as an automatic part of the first-team framework.

According to journalist Miguel Serrano, Mourinho does not currently envisage Asencio within his squad structure for the upcoming campaign.

The manager is instead prioritising a significant restructuring of Madrid's defensive unit, with the aim of restoring consistency after two uneven seasons at the back.

Central to this rebuild is the establishment of five trusted defensive options who can be rotated across a demanding calendar. The core group currently favoured includes Ibrahima Konate, Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, and Eder Militao.

Alongside this, Madrid are actively exploring the market for an additional signing, ideally a versatile defender capable of operating both at centre-back and left-back, or a high-level starter in central defence.

This recruitment strategy effectively reduces Asencio's standing within Mourinho's preferred senior group, with the coach also leaning towards supplementing the squad through Castilla rather than maintaining an enlarged pool of established centre-backs. Prospects such as Diego Aguado and Joan Martínez are viewed as emergency depth options.

Despite the uncertainty, Asencio is said to favour remaining at Madrid and fighting for his place. However, should a departure become necessary, he would seek a club able to match his five-million-euro salary.
