This, after head coach Jürgen Klopp confirmed the winger was withdrawn from international duty as a precaution.
Gnabry featured in all three of Germany's matches during the current Nations League window and started the 2-0 victory over Serbia as captain. However, he was replaced at half-time after completing 45 minutes, with Klopp opting not to push the 31-year-old further as he continues to build his fitness following a lengthy injury lay-off.
There is no indication that Gnabry has suffered a fresh injury, with the decision instead linked to managing his workload.
"Serge played in all of our games and featured as we had planned. After playing 45 minutes in our third game, he started to feel the strain," Klopp said.
"We then took him off at half-time because we didn’t want to rush things."
Gnabry's return to Bayern gives him several days to recover before he resumes training with his club ahead of the Bundesliga's return. Klopp said the attacker could have remained with Germany, but both parties felt a short period of rest would be more beneficial.
"He could have stayed with the squad but we thought that it would make sense to give him two or three days before he returns to training with Bayern again," the Germany boss added.
The decision comes as Gnabry continues his comeback from the adductor injury that kept him out of the 2026 World Cup. His minutes had been carefully managed earlier in the international break, and the Serbia match was his first 45-minute appearance since April.
Gnabry admitted afterwards that he is still some way from full match fitness.
"I'm not at 100 percent yet. This was now my fourth game. I played fewer minutes in the previous matches. But I have to get there through playing time. Every minute is important now," he said.
The winger's first international captaincy in the Serbia win nevertheless marked a significant moment during his return, with Gnabry describing the experience as "wonderful".
He will now continue his recovery with Bayern, where he is expected to be available for the upcoming clash with Augsburg. His early departure also provides the club with an opportunity to manage his workload before the domestic schedule resumes.
Germany, meanwhile, will face Greece in Thessaloniki without Gnabry, with Felix Keidel taking his place in the squad.
