Vincent Kompany hails Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise as 'world-class'

The Bayern Munich winger scored four goals and added two assists in four appearances for France during the international break, continuing the rapid progress he has made since joining Bayern from Crystal Palace in 2024.

Kompany insists Olise's development is not down to his coaching, with the Bayern boss convinced the 24-year-old had the qualities to reach the top regardless.

"I think a player with Michael Olise's talent would always make it. He would always be one of the best players," Kompany told RTL.

"It's not just his talent, but also his mentality and his eye for detail. He always seems to spot something that others might not see, and that applies in training as well."

Kompany was then asked whether he considered Olise a world-class player already, and his answer was emphatic.

"Yes, of course. Without a doubt," he said.

The Bayern coach believes Olise's mentality will be just as important as his ability as he continues to establish himself among the game's elite.

"He has taken many steps forward in recent years. But the most important thing for a coach in a situation with players like this is that the hunger remains," Kompany said.

"At our club, you get praise for what you achieve and how you work in training, and for what you deliver and do in a game. And if that is no longer there in a game, then we immediately have that discussion about how we can continue taking the next steps."

Olise has made a superb start to the new season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in seven appearances for Bayern.

Kompany, however, believes the foundations of Olise's success were already in place long before he arrived in Munich.

"That's the role we play, but it's not about turning a player into a world-class player. That's impossible. He already has that within himself," he said.

Bayern will look to Olise to continue his form when they face Augsburg in the Bundesliga at the WWK Arena on Saturday.
