'It was not easy' - Alexander Isak roars back with Liverpool double

The Sweden international wasted no time making his mark, scoring two quick goals to take his tally to three for the new season.

The performance was another positive step for Isak after a difficult first campaign at Liverpool. A lengthy injury and poor timing disrupted his progress last season, but the 26-year-old believes those problems are now behind him.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Isak said Liverpool had been determined to make a fast start after struggling to do so in recent games.

"We were waiting for the first win. We talked about starting the game good, which we haven't done recently, so it was perfect for us to get two good quick goals," he said.

Isak was also pleased with the way Liverpool attacked Ipswich and created chances throughout the match.

"With a normal pre-season, I think we are starting to get to the way we want to play," he said. "To be offensive and attack the defence. I think we did that today. We scored two, and we could have scored more."

His two goals also mean Isak has already matched his Premier League total from last season, when his progress was badly affected by injury.

"It was not easy," Isak said when reflecting on his first year at Anfield. "It was obviously a long injury and a difficult season in general."

He had been hoping to enjoy a strong World Cup and make a good start to the following season, and believes he is finally achieving those targets.

"It's kind of behind me, but it wasn't easy," he added.

Liverpool will now turn their attention to the Champions League, with Atletico Madrid due at Anfield on Wednesday.
