The 23-year-old was released by the Buccaneers ahead of the upcoming Betway Premiership campaign despite reportedly being offered a long-term deal by the club last year.
He is one of a number of new signings as Usuthu beef up their squad to build on last season's fourth placed finish.
A club statement read: "AmaZulu Football Club has strengthened its squad with the signing of 23-year-old winger Neo Mokoena ahead of the 2026/27 season.
"The 23-year-old joins Usuthu after most recently being on the books of Orlando Pirates, becoming the club’s latest addition ahead of the new campaign.
"Born in Pretoria, Mokoena began his football journey in the Mamelodi Sundowns youth academy before gaining valuable experience in the DStv Diski Challenge and the ABC Motsepe League. He now arrives at AmaZulu determined to make the most of his opportunity under Head Coach Arthur "Phakimpi" Zwane."
A delighted Mokoena added: "I'm grateful to join AmaZulu and thankful to the club for giving me this opportunity.
"The atmosphere at training has been amazing. The guys have welcomed me really well, and the intensity is on another level. It’s my first time competing at this level, so I’ll continue working hard and pushing myself every day.
"I'm finding my feet with my new teammates bit by bit. My goal is to help the team in every way I can. I’m a winger who enjoys taking on defenders. Dribbling is one of my biggest strengths, and I have good pace. I enjoy expressing myself on the ball, and that gives me confidence."
AmaZulu get their new season underway against Stellenbosch on Saturday.
