The Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign is one of the most highly anticipated in recent years following several changes in head coaching positions during the off-season.
Without a doubt, many coaches will begin the new season under intense scrutiny from both their club hierarchies and supporters.
As the countdown to kick-off continues, we look at the coaches who are likely to face the most pressure to deliver this season.
Fernando da Cruz - Kaizer Chiefs
Fernando da Cruz's decision to take over the reins at Kaizer Chiefs comes with enormous expectations, particularly after the club ended last season without silverware despite securing a third-place finish in the league.
With arch-rivals Orlando Pirates completing a domestic treble, including the league title, and Mamelodi Sundowns flying the South African flag high by winning their second CAF Champions League crown, Chiefs supporters and management will demand a strong response.
Da Cruz will therefore be under immediate pressure to restore the club to the summit of South African football.
Abdeslam Ouaddou - Orlando Pirates
After guiding Orlando Pirates to three trophies last season, Abdeslam Ouaddou now faces the challenge of proving that the success was no one-off.
Consistency will be key, with expectations of adding more silverware to the club's cabinet. Delivering another successful campaign would silence any remaining doubters.
Another major objective for Ouaddou will be the CAF Champions League, where Pirates are determined to re-establish themselves as genuine continental contenders.
Khalil Ben-Youssef - Durban City FC
Khalil Ben-Youssef begins a new chapter in his coaching career after being appointed as Durban City FC's sole head coach for the first time.
He previously served as co-coach alongside Cedric Kaze at Kaizer Chiefs and has also worked as an assistant coach at several clubs.
Durban City's management has already set ambitious targets, expecting at least one trophy and a top-eight finish this season. Ben-Youssef will also lead the club in its maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign after City qualified by winning last season's Nedbank Cup.
While continental football is not new to the Tunisian, having previously been involved in CAF competitions with clubs such as AS FAR Rabat and Young Africans, this will be his first experience leading a team in Africa as the head coach.
Miguel Cardoso - Mamelodi Sundowns
Although Miguel Cardoso delivered the CAF Champions League title, missing out on the Betway Premiership crown after Sundowns had dominated the competition for seven consecutive seasons remains a major disappointment.
The Portuguese coach will therefore have plenty to prove this season. Reclaiming the league title, while also competing for domestic cup honours, will be viewed as the minimum expectation at Chloorkop.
Brandon Truter - Chippa United
Brandon Truter took charge of Chippa United late last season and successfully guided the club away from relegation, earning himself the opportunity to continue in the role.
However, he will need to make a strong start to the new campaign. Chippa have built a reputation for being ruthless when results do not go their way, and Truter is unlikely to receive any special treatment.
Positive performances and consistent results will be expected from the opening match of the season if he hopes to keep the faith of the club's management.
The PSL is expected to begin in the first week of August.
